Professor Roland Burgmann graduated from Universität Tübingen, Germany with major in geology, paleontology and mineralogy. He received M.S. in structural geology at University of Colorado, Boulder and Ph.D at Stanford University .

His main research interests are active techtonics, using space geodesy to measure crustal deformation near active faults and volcanoes, models of strain development through the earthquake cycle.
