Professor Garniss Curtis is a geochronologist Emeritus. He received Ph.D. in Geology from University of California at Berkeley, 1951. (Professor Emeritus of Geology, UC Berkeley Department of Earth and Planetary Science).

His main research interests are geochronology and volcanology especially in autobrecciation of lava and eruptive processes; K/Ar and Ar 40/Ar 39 dating, geologic timescale, calibration of teritiary mammal stage ages and calibration of hominoid-hominoid evolution.
