Professor Harold C. Helgeson is professor of geochemistry at the University of California, Berkeley where he has been faculty since 1970.

Born on November 13, 1931, Helgeson grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota and attended Michigan State University as an undergraduate and received Ph.D in Geology at Harvard University.

For decades, he has continued to teach and conduct research in theoretical geochemistry, thermodynamics, chemical petrology, solution chemistry, phase equilibria, kinetics, organic and biogeochemistry, mass transfer in geochemical processes.
